How it works
Closeout & Contest: Defender starts at the free throw line. Offensive player stands at the 3-point line. Coach slaps the ball — defender sprints in a closeout (high hand, choppy steps).
- Defender starts at the free throw line. Offensive player stands at the 3-point line.
- Coach slaps the ball — defender sprints in a closeout (high hand, choppy steps).
- Offensive player catches and can: (a) shoot — defender contests; (b) drive — defender stays in front.
- If the shot is contested and missed: defender boxes out and rebounds.
- Switch roles after 5 reps each.
Coaching tips
Sprint the first 3/4 of the distance, then chop your steps to stay balanced. Never fly past the shooter. One hand up — two hands give the drive lane.
