Ice the Pick & Roll

How it works

Ice the Pick & Roll: Side pick and roll on the right wing: 1 has the ball, 5 comes up to set the screen. Before the screen hits, D1 jumps to the top side and takes away the middle.

1. Side pick and roll on the right wing: 1 has the ball, 5 comes up to set the screen.
2. Before the screen hits, D1 jumps to the top side and takes away the middle.
3. D5 drops to the baseline side and walls off the ball handler.
4. 1 is forced to the baseline into D5: no middle, no layup. Recover to your own man once the ball is stopped.

Coaching tips

Call it early ("Ice!") so both defenders are in position before the screen. D1 stays attached on the top side, D5 stays between the ball and the rim.
