How it works

Classic Mikan Drill: Start on the right side of the basket, ball in your right hand. Jump off your left foot and lay the ball in with your right hand off the backboard.

  1. Start on the right side of the basket, ball in your right hand.
  2. Jump off your left foot and lay the ball in with your right hand off the backboard.
  3. Without letting the ball hit the floor, catch it and immediately jump off your right foot for a left-hand layup.
  4. Keep alternating sides in a continuous rhythm for 60 seconds.
  5. Goal: 20 makes per minute.

Coaching tips

Keep the ball above your chin at all times. Short, quick jumps are better than high slow ones. The drill trains coordination, footwork, and touch simultaneously.
